Nina Ramos

Our first conversation with Nina Ramos was unusual, in that both Kate and I were instantly at ease: Kate, from the artists’ perspective, and I from my shared career experiences with Nina, who worked for years in corporate America before embracing art as her full-time endeavor.
Nina Ramos
But what really struck both of us was her ability to create intricate, abstract gestures that, up close, are rich in texture and details of their own – and when observed from a distance, represent lush, life-like interpretations of nature’s own beauty.
Based in central Florida, Nina is influenced heavily by the colors, energies, textures and emotions in her life. Grounded in her Spanish family and upbringing, she was surrounded in her youth by vibrant artworks, richly textured serape blankets, and painted terracotta pottery from Mexico. She combines those memories with the inspiration that surrounds her daily life, travels and imagination.
Original work: Nina Ramos – Flor de Otoño, 2019 – acrylic on canvas, 24”x36”, $2,600
A giant, deep-red poppy sits at the top center of Flor de Otoño (Autumn Flower), with leaves that extend from stems in shades of marigold, teal and green. The brush strokes show the layers of depth, with colors cooling to a bright magenta as they spiral toward the stigma – itself, an element to inspect and interpret. Stepping back to observe at scale, a garden with the last blooms of the season beckons.
The influences of Nina’s life are on full display in this work. It’s simply gorgeous.
