Tell us about your style:
Painting and creating has always been therapeutic for me even as a young child. I had a chaotic childhood so most of my pieces tend to feel peaceful and calm, which are things I always strive for in my everyday life. I also grew up in California surrounded by the city, as well as the mountains and the ocean which influence the colors and organic shapes in my art.

How do you experience art?
Art is such an integral part of my life, and I find inspiration everywhere. I think there is beauty in anything if you look for it.
What is your creative process?
A lot of music and coffee. My mood and environment affect my process a lot, and music is such a huge part of it. I love music as much as art so being able to immerse myself in it with my paints makes me feel very fortunate.

What motivates you?
Peace and equality.
What woman artist inspires you most?
Frida Kahlo. Not just for her art but her strength and tenacity. Oh, the stories she could tell!
What piece of art in this world means the most to you?
This sounds so cliche but it would have to be Edvard Munch’s The Scream. It really had a huge impact on me when I first saw it in middle school. For the first time I was able to relate to an art piece and it encapsulated everything I was feeling inside. It was a far cry from the pretty flowers of Impressionists, and it opened my eyes to a new world in art.

Which artists are catching your attention this year?
So many, and especially women artists. A few favorites are Calida Garcia Rawles, A’Driane Nieves, and Monica Shulman.
