The morning star in the background of Garden of Harmony represents the wisdom that comes from connecting with Unci Maka (Grandmother Earth): the Dakota floral garden with butterflies, bees and hummingbirds encircling, blooms in harmony -- plants and pollinators working together to ensure the seeds of tomorrow. Lessons we can relearn from them as humans, as stewards of the earth.
About the Artist
Marlena Myles is a self-taught Native American (Spirit Lake Dakota/Mohegan/Muscogee) artist located in St Paul, Minnesota. She has gained recognition as being one of the few Dakota women creating digital art with projects ranging from fabric patterns, animations to children's books and illustrations; bringing modernity to indigenous history, languages and oral traditions. Growing up on her traditional Dakota homelands, she enjoys using her artwork to teach people of all backgrounds the Indigenous history of this place we call home.
